Healthy Kids “Way to Swim” Program

Attention Greater Sudbury Teachers of Grade 5, 6 and 7 Students!

The Healthy Kids Community Challenge is partnering with the YMCA of North East Ontario, Greater Sudbury Transit and Rainbow Routes to offer our free "Way to Swim" Program for up to six Grade 5, 6 or 7 classes this Spring.

Selected classes will have the opportunity to ride City Transit for free or walk to the Sudbury YMCA to participate in free swimming lessons, once a week for 4 to 6 weeks. Teachers will receive support from Rainbow Routes and transit staff to help their students learn how to ride the bus and to determine the best scheduling and routes.

Our friendly YMCA swimming instructors will design a program to help each student develop their swimming skills to help make sure they can safely enjoy swimming this summer at our many lakes and waterfronts. Sessions will include a 40 minute lesson and 15 minute free swim.

Eligible schools must be within a 25 minute travel distance (combination of transit and walking based on Google Maps Transit directions) from the YMCA at 140 Durham St.  Classes from French language schools are encouraged to apply, however, not all YMCA instructors will be able to provide lessons in French. Schools with a higher number of students who may not have had the opportunity to participate in swimming lessons before will be prioritized.

The following session times are available. Selected schools need to be able to attend 4 to 6 of the available dates between the week of April 30th and the week of June 11th:

Available Sessions:
Mondays 11:00 am or 1:00 pm
