Healthy Kids Snow Day 2017


Your family isn’t going to want to miss this FREE event on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Bell Park.

The Healthy Kids Community Challenge has your family’s winter fun covered with lots of activities, light snacks and water, and much more to keep you both active and entertained.

Together, let’s make healthy and active the new normal.

FREE TRANSIT will be available to and from the Snow Day Venue. It’s simple, and no vouchers are required. Participants need only tell the bus driver that they are going to Snow Day

**Please note that activities may change, dependent on weather conditions.


  • Visit our petting zoo, or enjoy a pony ride (10:30 am- 3:30 pm)

  • Start some friendly competition at our sports court

  • Borrow some snowshoes and go on a guided hike with Laurentian Outdoor Ed students.

  • Enjoy nutritious snacks and plenty of water

  • Use a toboggan for hill sliding

  • Take a spin on our special skating rink on Ramsey Lake, near our event. Friendly volunteers from the Valley East Skating Club will be on the ice from 10:30 to 12:30 giving tips and assistance to new skaters, or those who want to improve their technique! Bring your skates and helmets, or borrow some from the on-site Skate Exchange Trailer

  • Join the Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre and Kina Gbezhgomi at the tipi for storytelling, games, and cultural demonstrations

  • Move & Groove - Outside! Parents and little ones can join staff from Better Beginnings Better Futures at 11:00 am for an introduction to music through song, instruments and movement.

  • Join with Jeannette McQuabbie and other families for a drumming circle with BBBF at 1:00 pm.

  • Try cooking some bannock over the fire

  • Visit with Tap and Thirsty and "Level Up" your refillable water bottle with cool stickers

  • Take a break at one of our warm up trailers

  • Start your own activity at one of our free-play zones

  • Navigate our mini snow maze

  • Build a quinzee with Lake Laurentian Conservation Area (10:00 am- to 1:00 pm)


To make the event fun and accessible to everyone, Healthy Kids Snow Day will offer the following:

  • Free public transit is available (just tell the bus driver you’re going to Snow Day)

  • Warm-up trailers and a campfire are available

  • A supply of warm dry mitts, scarves, hats, boots, snow pants, socks, ski jackets provided by Our Children Our Future and Better Beginnings Better Futures

  • Free nutritious snacks, and water will be served. Don't forget to bring a refillable water bottle or cup!

  • A special warm-up area for families with babies and young children, equipped with change tables, nursing stations, and changing facilities

  • Use of helmets for children who need one

  • The Skate Exchange Trailer- where you can pick up (or borrow) a pair of gently used skates.

  • Use of toboggans for hill sliding 


Note:  We welcome kids and families with all abilities to Snow Day. Some activities and all facilities will be accessible. A drop-off area is available for people using mobility aids. Drive up to the gate of Bell Park on Paris St. If a family member needs special assistance or accommodations, you can call ahead (705-674-4455 ext 4313) or check in at the registration table to let us know what might work. We'll do our best to help you have a great day.
